Welcome to Elgin Schools

The day is finally here. We've told our girls from the beginning that one day they would be Elgin Owls. That day is now. We went to meet their teachers tonight and for the first time I can say that I think they are really going to like it.

Jordan was all ready to put everything in her desk.
Jordan was the most outgoing I've ever seen her. She talked to every person she met. She would introduce herself and then Ashley. Then she would launch into some story. She told everyone - even the principal - that she is going to start gymnastics on Thursday. They had one boy from Fletcher who was in their class last year that they knew was coming to Elgin. I had been praying that he might be in their class so they would at least know someone. He's sitting across from Jordan! He was king with her in the parade last year so she says she's sitting next to her prince! She was dancing all around and just wouldn't be quiet or still. She says she is sooo excited about going to school tomorrow.

Ashley found the library!
Ashley wasn't so excited to begin with. She didn't like the fact that she was sitting next to boys at her desk and is nervous about that. She didn't talk to her teacher much. However, then we went to the library and she went wild. She was pulling out all the books trying to decide which one she wanted to read first and changing her mind with every book she saw. She talked to the librarian about what she wanted to read and wanted to know why they couldn't check out books tonight. When we left, she said she was excited about the classroom first, the library second, and the playground third. On the way home, she kept asking, "Is it tomorrow yet??"

I love this bulletin board!
Hailey hid behind Greg during most of our time in Jordan and Ashley's room. Then Jordan had to coax her into her kindergarten room. We had to convince her to find her seat. Then she and the girls started exploring. She saw all the toys. She saw the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees. She finally started coming out of her shell and talked to her teacher Mrs. Camden just a little. Most of the time it was Jordan jabbering away though and Hailey didn't get many words in!

They checked out the playground and were most impressed. We had to drag them away. I was impressed with everything. They're going to have separate art, music, computer, library, and PE teachers. Jordan was very excited about the art class and Ashley is excited about the music class. I'm excited that they are going to have lots of opportunities to follow whatever their dreams are.

They're all excited about tomorrow. I wasn't sure they could go to sleep because they kept running around all giddy. Amazingly, they dropped off almost immediately. Many prayers were answered tonight. Now my prayer is that tomorrow they will begin friendships with children who will stay with them for many years and be good influences in their lives. I pray they make good choices and are successful in the coming year.

VBS Family Night

We had an amusement park atmosphere for family night of VBS. First the kids sang a few songs from VBS and then Brother Bob presented the gospel to the parents. Then we headed in for inflatables, balloon creatures, face painting, crafts, cotton candy, popcorn, and pickles! The girls had a blast. They missed the pony rides, but were grateful that the ponies stayed home and didn't get drenched in the total downpour right before the event! Practicing while waiting on the other kids to arrive. A - Admit to God that you're a sinner and repent. B - Believe that Jesus is God's own son. C - Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. It's the ride of your life when you dare to believe in Jesus Christ!!

Vocabulary Words

After report cards came back, we realized that it might be a good idea to study for the vocabulary test instead of just the spelling words. Now we're snapping a picture on Wednesdays of the vocabulary and taking pre-test on it too. Just making sure we can read the definitions is helping a lot. Seeing lots more 100s on the test now.

Traveling

I'm amazed at how much we drive. I took this picture leaving school today. Wasn't it just a year or two ago that I took the picture of the odometer at 12345? We actually travel less than we used to. Monday and Tuesday is normally just to Elgin and back home. Wednesdays have us driving to school, Lawton, and then to home. The same thing happens on Thursday for gymnastics, piano, and dance. On Friday we just go to school and back home. Then on Sunday we go to church in Lawton. To some people that is a lot of driving. It doesn't really seem like it to me. But I guess the odometer doesn't lie.
