Good intentions

Last night, I went to bed, read a little of Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron, and turned out the light around 11:00. However, I had been staying up until closer to midnight the past two weeks. I lay there thinking first about what I had read. The book takes place in Iowa and the author was talking about when she grew up and how much simpler things had been. The neighborhood farm kids got together and played baseball. They had a small school that everyone enjoyed. Close friends, close neighbors, simple gatherings. Simple life. I thought about how complicated our life has become now. Technology just seems to have taken over. Jordan and Ashley's two cousins who are the same age as them received an iPhone and a Nook for Christmas. First of all, we couldn't afford that. Second of all, what happened to imagination? I began to think about what we should do differently to try to return to some of those old ideals. My mind just wandered from there.

I came up with sundry ideas for New Year's Resolutions and 2012 Projects. Some of them include blogging again and doing the 365 Day Project with a picture a day. I thought about ways to get the girls to write more, like planning on monthly experiences that they have to research and write about then put in a digital scrapbook. I thought about writing letters more and having the girls send some of their school drawings and a letter to Nee Nee on a regular basis. I thought about showing love more and actually planning on date nights with Greg and a time when each girl can spend some alone time with Dad or Mom. I thought about inviting the neighbors over. I thought about chores and an allowance. I thought of a lot of things. I was excited. And it was 2:00 in the morning before I knew it!!

So, today, even though I'd planned on getting my scrapbook table completely cleared off, having a family meeting where we could discuss all of my ideas and narrowing them down a little - okay, maybe a lot, and then taking a picture that represented all of that somehow for today's picture. I have nothing. It's 9:00 and I'm about to fall asleep. Headed to bed!

VBS Family Night

We had an amusement park atmosphere for family night of VBS. First the kids sang a few songs from VBS and then Brother Bob presented the gospel to the parents. Then we headed in for inflatables, balloon creatures, face painting, crafts, cotton candy, popcorn, and pickles! The girls had a blast. They missed the pony rides, but were grateful that the ponies stayed home and didn't get drenched in the total downpour right before the event! Practicing while waiting on the other kids to arrive. A - Admit to God that you're a sinner and repent. B - Believe that Jesus is God's own son. C - Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. It's the ride of your life when you dare to believe in Jesus Christ!!

Vocabulary Words

After report cards came back, we realized that it might be a good idea to study for the vocabulary test instead of just the spelling words. Now we're snapping a picture on Wednesdays of the vocabulary and taking pre-test on it too. Just making sure we can read the definitions is helping a lot. Seeing lots more 100s on the test now.

Traveling

I'm amazed at how much we drive. I took this picture leaving school today. Wasn't it just a year or two ago that I took the picture of the odometer at 12345? We actually travel less than we used to. Monday and Tuesday is normally just to Elgin and back home. Wednesdays have us driving to school, Lawton, and then to home. The same thing happens on Thursday for gymnastics, piano, and dance. On Friday we just go to school and back home. Then on Sunday we go to church in Lawton. To some people that is a lot of driving. It doesn't really seem like it to me. But I guess the odometer doesn't lie.
